"I think it's a great idea; it's about time we wrote about popular music, starting with the neighborhoods, where it was born and in whose streets and bars it takes shape and evolves. This book about Getafe and its musicians is a welcome addition. Let this example spread."
Joaquín Sabina
The first part is based on the testimony of several young people, now in their seventies, and others younger than that, who were part of the city's first musical groups. Through their stories, we learn that they all rehearsed in rented spaces or garages, testing the patience of the neighbors with their noisy efforts. It was there that the musicians who provide the soundtrack to the city of Getafe were born. The second part describes the origins and history of the Getafe Music Band, the Maestro Gombau Municipal Music School, the Polyphonic Choir, the Youth Orchestra, the Big Band, the Symphony Orchestra, the Professional Music Conservatory, and many other spaces and groups, narrated by their creators and members. Thanks to them, Getafe today occupies a privileged place in musical training and practice.
